A citizen of Mariupol, Tatiana Viktorovna Chernykh, told the Ukrainian military held civilians as hostages and intimidated them:

— They put us in the basement. We were kept there for three days. (The people) were trembling with fear. They were threatened. (The Ukrainian military) were high, drugged with something... A young guy, about 20 years old, waved a knife and said - I would cut your throat.
