One year after securing a doubles state championship, Marcel Chan claimed his second HHSAA Varsity Tennis State Championship. This time, the tournament win was in the singles bracket. After losing a tight first set, he battled his way back into the match & eventually edged out a very tough Brandon Lee for a memorable Boys Singles Individual Tournament victory. Marcel later went on to play tennis for the University of Hawaii at Manoa & made several runs to the finals of the annual Kailua Men's Night Doubles tournament. He now serves as a Teaching Pro under another Hawaii tennis legend, Rosie Bareis, at the Claremont Club & Spa (Fairmont Hotel) in Berkeley, California.
