Why didn't Paul cure Timothy of his sickness?

In 1 Timothy 5:23, Paul advised Timothy to start drinking a little wine when he was sick, as it was a good remedy for his ailments.

But Paul was a miracle worker, and Timothy was like a son to him. Why didn't he just cure Timothy of his sicknesses, so that he would never have to get sick again?
