Soul Speak #11 - Healing the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda - Would you be healed?

I had an interesting conversation with a friend this morning, which had us consider the meaning of Jesus healing the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda, in the Bible. And what puzzled us (and sorely annoyed us in times past 😌) is Jesus asking the lame "Do you want to be healed"?

To which the mental response would be, "What do you friggin' mean do I want to be healed??? I have only been laying here for 38 years!"

But what did Jesus really intend by his question? Do you want to be healed, or have you become so identified with being paralytic and leaning on the help of another to get you through life?

When my friend pointed this out, I could see it so clearly and as I apply it to the many years of me "leaning on Jesus" or being "carried by God" has in fact caused me to be a 'paralytic' and in a 'needy' (lacking, empty) kind of way.
It is interesting to note that Jesus did not offer to "carry" the lame man, but told him to "pick up your mat and walk". Change your identity from being a 'paralytic' for Jesus and stand on your own two ankles and become strong.
I was in such a poor state of soul that I had nothing to offer to anyone, but would send them away looking for the man from Galilee to heal them. Now I know that he would tell them the same "you get up and walk".
