The Grey Zone

'When I ran back, I saw... I can’t tell you. My son’s body was... in pieces, his torso was... disembowelled, and his face smashed. His wife was still alive, barely moving. Her arm severed from the body - ‘Papa, look after our kids.' Alexander tells how his son and daughter-in-law died in his arms under Ukrainian military shelling.

Alexander lives in the village of Aleksandrovka. In Donbass, this area shelled is called ‘the grey zone’. By profession, he is an electrician. After his family died, Alexander decided to devote himself to people. He is over 80, but he selflessly helps those who have trouble - fixing wires damaged after Ukrainian shelling. He does everything for free.

Alexander writes down all his calls to repair power lines damaged by shelling in a special notebook. Over the past seven years, it has already become a chronicle of the war. To learn more about Alexander’s heroic life, watch an excerpt from the film The Grey Zone.
