Soul Speak #28 (Aug 16/20) Whatsoever you ask "in my name". What might this mean?

John 16:23 "In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Truly, truly, I tell you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you."

For many years I have been pondering the meaning of "asking in My name" and what that might mean beyond the attaching of "in Jesus' name" behind every prayer.

This morning on my contemplative walk I was "inspired" with this thought.
Think of the phrase "in my name" in terms of a surname. Since having been "adopted" into the heavenly family (actually I don't like the idea of adoption all that much, since we have never been orphans in the Father's eyes)... anyway, since we now carry the family name, we can ask anything of the Father and He will give it to us.

It always comes back to the importance of "identity". As a stranger or orphan, one might not possess the confidence and assurance of receiving anything. The child however, knowing his place in the family is confident in the asking, for he bears the name of the Father.

So does the "in My name" perhaps just mean to be certain of one's standing in God's family?
