This is a brief history of Fort Casey on Whidbey Island in Washington.

In the 1880s the United States was thinking that it might be a good idea to set up a defense in the pacific northwest and came up with something called the triangle of fire. Building three military forts on three islands Casey on Whidbey. Flagler on Marrowstone and Warden at Port Townsend. Construction began at Fort Casey in 1897, one of the modern things they had were big guns on disappearing carriages that could be raised and lowered so that they were only exposed in order to fire. As things go these guns were considered outdated as soon as they were built due to this thing called the aeroplane in 1903. The big guns were taken out during world war one and put on rail cars instead and the fort itself was used as a training camp. Fort Casey was officially decommissioned in the 1950s and is now a park that you can check out yourself.
