Police Chase - Fatal Crash - Lisle Police Department December 22-2020

At approximately 1:13 a.m., a Lisle Police Officer observed a person operating a vehicle approximately 20-miles above the posted speed limit near the 1500 block of Ogden Avenue. The officer activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop. While the officer was receiving notification that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Chicago, the vehicle fled westbound on Ogden Avenue at a high rate of speed.

The fleeing vehicle then traveled north onto Naper Boulevard. Lisle Police Officers located the vehicle on the entrance ramp to eastbound I-88, where it was determined to have been involved in a single-vehicle crash. Officers worked to free the driver and passenger from the vehicle until the Naperville Fire Department arrived and transported the driver and passenger to Edward-Elmhurst Hospital in Naperville, where the driver was later pronounced dead.

“This was a tragic and unfortunate event. I appreciate the response from our officers and assistance from our law enforcement partners, including the Naperville Police and Fire Departments, Illinois State Police, and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney’s Office,” Chief Ron Wilke said.

The deceased has been identified as a 30-year-old Marcus L. Thomas from Chicago.

At the time of the event, Thomas had a revoked Illinois driver’s license and was wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service for weapon offenses. Two loaded firearms, a .45-caliber Masterpiece Arms MAC-10 and a Glock .40-caliber handgun were recovered from the floorboard of the driver’s seat.
