rare

-off target effects of precision cancer drugs are often

Summary of experiments that were in the paper...
1. Normal cells have normal nuclear genome & mitochondria
-can regulate their
physiology both
genetically and
energetically
-they beget normal
cells

2. Tumor cells beget other tumor cells
-have many gene mutations in nucleus
-have defects in
cytoplasm in
mitochondria,
lacking cristae, or
other abnormalities
-mutations in nucleus
or defects in
mitochondria
that causes cancer?

These questions were addressed by nuclear and mitochondrial
transfer experiments...
-nucleus of tumor
cell placed in
normal cell
Result:
-no cancer in
offspring

These questions were addressed by nuclear and mitochondrial
transfer experiments...
-nucleus of normal
cell placed in
tumor cell
Result:
-either dead cells
or tumor cells

Results are exact OPPOSITE as predicted by the
somatic mutation theory of cancer
"the origin resides in
the nucleus"
-tumor nucleus in
normal cell (3.)
should have formed
tumor cells
-normal nucleus in
tumor cell (4.) should
form normal cells

When normal mitochondria are transplanted to cancer cells...
-you get NO TUMORS
-you suppress the
development of the
tumor
"These findings:
'cancer cannot be
a disease of somatic
mutations in nucleus"
"It cannot be a
genetic disease"
