River fishing for Michigan steelhead with Swift Waters Guide Service was an opportunity that we jumped on thanks to a cancelation and a irresistible discounted rate! I usually don’t spring for guided trips because I am poor but every time I book a guided steelhead fishing trip I learn so much! It is worth it to me even if we have a bad day of Michigan steelhead fishing because I have a chance to ask an experienced steelhead guide all the little things I’ve been dying to know about steelhead habits and learn how to target steelhead in different Michigan rivers with different techniques or different gear. In this case we got to use Nova Tackle Company Nova chrome rods and custom built rainshadow rods. The guide was even kind enough to show us his personal Nova rods and even some prototype gear from Nova Tackle Company after we wrapped up our guided Michigan steelhead trip. The last guided steelhead fishing trip I went on we used high end G Loomis rods with spinning reels and on this trip we got a different experience with Nova Tackle Baitcasting rods and Diawa bait caster reels. In previous trips with Michigan steelhead fishing guides Ive had the pleasure of using High end Shamano rods and Lamiglas rods. Every steelhead guide has their preferences from fishing rods to the bobber or the rig or style and techniques for targeting Michigan steelhead. Needless to say we learned a ton and had a lot of fun fishing with Dustin Lehnert of Swift Waters Guide Service! Dustin was Knowledgeable and fun but kept the quiet guide persona with made for a chill, quiet, serine, scenic day of Michigan Steelhead fishing.

One of the other super cool things about this guided steelhead trip in northern Michigan was that not only did I catch a nice bonus walleye but later that day we saw hundreds of trophy walleye chillin on shallow clear water gravel beds. I had never seen anything like it. I was sad walleye season was closed at the time because it looked like a walleye Fishermans dream come true with trophy Walleye everywhere… We also saw a Bald Eagle and got to battle some big Michigan Steelhead.

I am still green when it comes to steelhead fishing Michigan rivers and have hardly fished anywhere outside of Michigan at all. I have a few years of experience river fishing for Michigan steelhead but what I lack the most is experience fighting big steelhead. It was nice to get coached through a few steelhead fights by an experienced Michigan steelhead guide. If you are thinking about doing a guided steelhead trip I would highly recommend booking a guided steelhead trip with Swift Waters Guide Service! River fishing for Michigan steelhead is where my mind is at most of the year but I love any type of fishing but most of all I just love Michigan river fishing. I love to be in the water and wading Michigan Rivers is my happy place. River wading is hard work though so a day of Michigan river fishing from the comfort of a nice boat is always appreciated. I am however content to wade farm ditches for hours just looking at fish. Steelhead fishing Michigan rivers adds the thrill of an epic battle with one of the strongest, fastest and most acrobatic fresh water fish Michigan has to offer! If you have never gone Michigan steelhead fishing before don’t hesitate and book yourself a guided Michigan steelhead fishing trip! Once you get into steelhead fishing It will be your favorite type of fishing. I have endured some cold days of Michigan fishing and have spent winter days sun up to sun down on Michigan rivers chasing steelhead. Why would I torture myself with such a body breaking bone numbing day of torture? Because River fishing for Michigan steelhead is the icing on the cake for any Michigan fisherman.

This is the last trip for 2021 winter steelhead fishing Michigan as spring is here but you can probably expect one or 2 more Michigan Steelhead fishing videos from me before the season comes to a complete end. Infact I have another guided michigan steelhead fishing trip booked for later this month with another guide so there will most likely be another Northern Michigan steelhead fishing video coming soon! I intend to chase Michigan steelhead for a few more weeks before I start targeting Musky, Brook Trout, and probably some spring Bass fishing in the coming weeks. So be sure to stay tuned for more Michigan Fishing Videos!
