DISASTER in the Greenhouse! Late Frost Kills our Seedlings!

A cold front moved through our area last week and killed nearly all of our seed starts! The pop-up greenhouse tent has done a great job helping our seedlings along but it couldn’t handle a couple consecutive nights below 30°F. So what did we learn, and where do we go from here?

We learned that the next time nighttime cold temperatures are expected the seed trays need to be moved inside. As good as the tent does during the day it just doesn’t hold that heat overnight. It wasn’t a complete loss, though, as our cold-hardy plants (lettuces, etc.) made it through the cold. Now, it’s time to restart our seedlings. Megan used the soil blocker again – this is the handiest little tool and it makes starting seeds a breeze. We restarted our green beans, tomatoes, and even a few melons, among a few other vegetables.

This is our first year doing a garden so we’re expecting more failures, and more success, throughout the season. Be sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss the next episode! Thanks for watching, everyone!
