Michael Shawn Hickenbottom, the son of Dick and Carol Hickenbottom, was born on July 22, 1965. Michaels spent his infancy going from the United Kingdom to Maryland before settling in San Antonio, Texas when he was approximately 8 years old since his father was an Air Force pilot. His parents characterized him as a well-liked, quiet, and introverted youngster who excelled in athletics, particularly football. Michaels recalls deciding to be a professional wrestler when he was 12 years old, despite the fact that his high school did not have a wrestling team. His father was an amateur wrestler at the University of Iowa, and he idolized professional wrestlers like Ric Flair as a kid.
