Weekly Video Update
For May 16-20, 2022
The Week’s Session
Recap 1: Week of May 9 - 13, 2022
For the Week:
Continued selling and volatility due to growth concerns and a negative technical analysis picture.
The markets are concerned that the Fed will remain aggressive with tightening plans as inflation data remains high. The current plan is to have 0.50% hikes at the next two meetings and to begin a tapering program.
The idea that inflation has topped has been revived (CPI and PPI were moderated).
Russia has threatened retaliation if Finland joins NATO.
The lockdown news in China is conflicting: Some reports suggest more aggressive lockdowns in some areas while others suggest less aggressive lockdowns in other areas.
Oil demand forecasts have been lowered after seeing a cut in oil prices in Asia due to weaker demand.
The S&P 500 fell below 4000 and nearly entered Bear Market territory but it was regained in Friday’s session and used as an entry point for buying.
Down: -2.41% for the week.
