Rotten Wall Needs Replacement | Home Renovation Part 3 | 2021/25

We are going to rebuild an exterior wall, install a new door, replace patch and paint the sheet rock, and reside the exterior. This project has many aspects. Recently the exterior door to the garage was damaged, and needs to be replaced, previously the dryer exhaust hose had come off and for some time it was blowing hot moist air into the corner, this in turn damaged the sheetrock and the structure. Wet warm wood is not a good thing to have, and the bugs love it. And after a period, the structure has begun to fail.

After removing the exiting door and removing the temporary repairs, we were able to see the extent of the damage, the entire corner of the house and the entire wall between the corner and the door needed to be removed and replaced, it was beyond salvageable.

After demo, the wall was restructured, insulated, and sheeting. A vapor barrier was installed and then new 10” cedar clapboard siding was installed. Sheet rock and joint compound was added, everything was sanded and then primed and painted. One of the biggest challenges was replicating a trim piece that is no longer commercially available. All of the paint is Behr Marquee in either Satin or Flat sheen. Material costs were right around $1,000.00.
