Pipe Poems: The Farm

The Farm
No one spoke as a puff of smoke
filled the air around them
The char light done just past the sun
as sounds of dusk surround them

The hard fought day with bales of hay
And chores around the farm
Comes to an end around the bend
On a porch with a simple charm

Concerns of rain or drought that came
Or if the crops are ripe
Seems eased a bit once leaf is lit
Over a well used pipe

With sunsets glow and the cottonwood snow
Drifting down the breeze
Glowing briars lift spirits higher
As the owls sing in the trees

The crickets play in their own way
To serenade the night
A whisp of bliss with some cavendish
Sets the evening right

And both aware that tomorrow’s cares
Will soon rise with the sun
Puff last their pipes and salute the night
Now that the day is done
