How do I pack for the beach?

How do you pack? Are you a throw it all in last minute? Start organizing a month ahead? Pack for the whole family a few days before? Do you bring the bare minimum & plan to wash? Do you bring all the things, not knowing what you'll feel like wearing each day? I usually start several days ahead but I'm always doing way too much the night before.
