Microsoft has finally decided to kill Internet Explorer after 25 long years.
Internet Explorer IE in short was the first window to web journey for many people in 90s
The Internet Explorer project was started in the summer of 1994 with 6 developers, released 1st version on August 16, 1995 along with Windows 95 plus pack.
Internet Explorer was installed along with Windows OS.
Microsoft won the first browser war against netscapes navigator which was the most popular browser in 90's.
Back in those days it was common for web designers to display 'best viewed in Netscape' or 'best viewed in Internet Explorer' logos.
First Browser War which started at 1995 ended on 2001 Netscape loosing the browser war.
By 2001 Microsoft almost it had monopoly over browser market.
It attained peak of about 95% usage share by 2003.

Second Browser War started from 2004 and went on up to 2017 when Mozilla CTO publicly stated that Google Chrome won the Second Browser War.
The browser will be finished on August 17th, 2021.

Why Microsoft has to kill internet explorer.
Competitors came to the market, In 2004, the Mozilla foundation released the first Firefox browser, and in 2008 Google Chrome joined it.
Microsoft continually ignored web standards and continually missed updates and got criticized as one of the “worst tech products of all time”.
Microsoft did not follow the guidelines set by the World Wide Web Consortium – the organization that establishes standards for web technologies

Google and Mozilla companies were keen to move faster than Internet Explorer – something that was easy to achieve.
New features were only added to Microsoft’s browser as a part of a major release, and it could take years for the company to update the browser.

Microsoft teams will no longer support Internet Explorer 11- the most recent & final iteration of the browser from November 30th, 2020.
Microsoft is pushing users to install the new and revamped Chromium-based Edge browser
There is an older version of Edge which is called Edge legacy which does not use Chromium; that version will also be phased out on 9 March 2021.
So as a developer or as a tester make sure you are using the right version of the Edge browser

In the recent years we used IE to only download Chrome
Chrome lovers you don't worry about Microsoft ending Internet explorer. You can use Microsoft Edge to download Google Chrome.
