Democratic Leaders Fumble Away Abortion Rights

For 50 years the right has methodically chipped away at the Roe v Wade decision and abortion rights in the United States. The Democratic Party and its leadership have done next to nothing to preserve those rights while whispering lip service to pro-choice voters. They offer no defense or strategy now as conservatives and Republicans are poised to finally claim victory over women's right to body autonomy.

The other emotion I had was horrified admiration for American conservatives. They have planned this for decades. They have been strategic. Much more strategic than Democrats when it comes to thinking about the production of reproductive freedom. and they won. And I feel of course a lot of anger and horror at Alito, all of the conservative judges, the supreme court in general, which I think is a deeply fought institution all of the Republicans who made this happen. But I'm also very angry with all the democrats who have allowed this to happen. Since it's been so clear to anyone who's been watching for the last few decades that this has been the game plan all along.
Exactly and frankly the fact that they've been caught flat-footed is reprehensible. I'm reminded of a quote from Nancy Pelosi in 2017. Do we have that? Just really briefly talking about how abortion should not be a front-facing issue for democrats. Maybe if we just have the headline there. We can pull that up. But sorry for springing that on you guys. But you know that the fact that they seemingly have zero Plan B. Yesterday the Roe v Wade codification bill predictably failed in the senate. That is not going to carve out a filibuster exemption for women's reproductive health. And just their human humanity and human rights. Nancy Pelosi said this in 2017 which is just shocking. I mean frankly, Pelosi said Democratic candidates should not be forced to toe the party line on abortion. She said it was quite fading as an issue for democrats. That was in 2017. Now here we are five years later.
