Just when I thought my work day was over (after 10 PM), Nelly Barajas called me about an adult cat on the 91 Freeway! She pulled over, and the smart cat knew to run under her car, and then climbed up and disappeared!

This is an extremely dangerous situation because the freeway is very dark, and attempting a rescue when people are flying by at top speeds can result in serious injuries or more likely - death!

As I was heading towards Nelly's location, she told me the cat was NOT in her engine, but somewhere in the back area of her car. I had to make a very difficult decision and I asked Nelly to call the police and ask them to escort her safely off the freeway.

I instructed her to drive at 2 mph and this will give the cat a chance to survive in case she falls or decides to jump off! I knew this could be deadly for the cat, but it was just too dangerous to this rescue on the freeway.

I knew that Nelly would have to continue on the 91 freeway for almost 3 miles, then merge to the 605 freeway, drive another mile, and only then she will have an exit where we could work safely. I can't even imagine how scary this must have been to the terrified cat.

I arrived just 30 seconds after they exited the freeway and thanked the @California Highway Patrol for helping Nelly and the cat exit the freeway safely. A minute later, a young man with a camera approached us and asked "Are you from Hope For Paws?". I said, "Yes" (I was so confused). I asked Nelly "Did you call the news???". She said "No!". It turned out that while the drama was happening on the freeway, Nathaniel Holguin from@RMG Newswas listening in to the police radio, and because he loves cats, he decided to join us and offered to help. The first clip on their channel will show you how dangerous it is to top on the freeway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osk8J...

I could tell that Lizzie had her ear tipped which means she was spayed in the past and released, so I knew there is a great chance she was a feral cat and that I could get seriously injured there.

The rest of the story is in this video and the ending is so sweet and so perfect for Valentine's Day 💝💝💝

I am happy to do all these crazy rescues even though I know those could be extremely dangerous. I can't imagine life without doing this work, and I would LOVE IT if you would join us and become a monthly donor of $5 here: https://www.HopeForPaws.org/DonationR...

With the rising cost of everything (including veterinary care), I need extra help, and I would love to have more people join our team 🙏

How cool it would be to write on your Valentine Card "I made a donation to Hope For Paws in your honor because I know you love animals 💝"

It will take just a minute and will help us save animals all year: https://www.HopeForPaws.org

If you would like to adopt Lizzie, please contact our friends at Cat Connection L.A: https://CatConnectionla.org

Thank you so much!
