Fake Accounts Pause Twitter Deal

Elon Musk's monumental Twitter takeover might be in jeopardy. He tweeted that his deal to acquire Twitter is currently on hold "pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users."

So, Musk is basically saying, before he goes forward with an overpriced offer, he needs to make sure the accounts are real on the platform. This is something anyone would do if they are about to enter an approximately $40 billion deal.

This comes at a time when Musk has received a lot of criticism for his plan to allow free speech on Twitter and even reinstate former President Trump's account. In an interview, Elon Musk pointed out that banning the former President was wrong:

"I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice. He is now going to be on TruthSocial, as will a large part of the right, in the United States, and so I think this could end up being frankly, worse than having a single forum where everyone could debate. I guess the answer is that I would reverse the permanent ban."

The Left is panicked over the idea that Musk would take over Twitter and no longer censor anyone. Media Matters sent a letter to major brands to urge them to commit to how Twitter is right now before Musk's takeover, or else they will not advertise on the platform. The letter reads:

"To whom it may concern: Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized."
