Lagoa das Almas - Insurrection of the Slaves of Queimado

The Queimado Insurrection that took place in 1849 was contained with extreme violence by the Chief of Police of the Province, killing and arresting everyone he found on the way, including a slave, the wife of one of the rebels. Most of the slaves were brutally murdered and their bodies dumped in what is now called “Lagoa das Almas”.
