In the past I have used a hand chisel, since I felt I had more control than with a router but it usually gave me ugly cuts and took a lot of time. This template makes hinge installation essentially error free and can work with essentially any door thickness. This package is a one-stop shop: all you need is a router and you are on your way, since it comes with a router bit and a self-centering drill bit for the screw holes. The built in router bit depth gauge and the on board storage for all the pieces is a great touch. Excellent template/jig for a task I used to hate; highly recommended. This template allows you to quickly cut different size hinges with radius or square corners (you will need to use a chisel to cut out square corners) using the included router bit. TIP: use a trim router if possible because it is much easier to handle and less like to accidentally chew up the template than a full size router.
