Common names include acerola, guarani, Barbados, acerola, and wild crape myrtle. Acerola cherries are native to Paraguay and Brazil in South America, Central America and southern Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, but are now also grown in subtropical Asia such as southern Texas and India.
The pulp is characterized by its excellent vitamin C content.
