Recently, Amy Hill of Sandy Run News (Member, The Overton Group) was able to catch up with Mitch Prosser and find out what he has been working on through the Palmetto Family Council. Mitch described Palmetto Family’s existence as the cultural guardrail for South Carolina that functions to ensure that God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive and life is cherished. Palmetto Family is all about bringing Christian conservatives together to focus on the things that we can do here in South Carolina to make this state a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Mitch travels across the state for Palmetto Family sharing with people that the organization is comprised of unapologetic Christian conservatives reflective of the larger population’s values. Mitch explained that faith and freedom are worth defending so Palmetto Family advocates are at the Statehouse during the session making sure that representatives deliver on their promises to their constituents. Palmetto Family is working towards a concerted front to show the rest of our state that our faith and freedoms need to be guarded, protected and defended.
At the Governor’s request, the organization recently put together a taskforce of religious and ministry leaders across the state raising awareness for the adoptive and foster care crisis. South Carolina has over 4,000 kids in the foster care system. Out of that 4,000, more than 58% have been in foster care for more than two years. South Carolina has a one-year rule and we are breaking our own rules.
The Palmetto Family Matters podcast will feature Director Leach, S.C. Department of Social Services, in the near future. Governor McMaster will host a Foster Care Summit on October 14th in downtown Columbia. Palmetto Family, Legislators and the Governor will bring solutions to the table with the goal of saving South Carolina families.
