NASA & Axiom Space have signed a mission order for the first private astronaut mission to the International Space Station

This is part of its plan to develop a robust and competitive economy in low-Earth orbit. NASA’s needs in low-Earth orbit – such as human research, technology development, and in-flight crew testing – will continue after the retirement of the International Space Station.

Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1), is scheduled to launch no earlier than January 2022 for an eight-day mission. The Axiom Space crew will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
