Fox Labs Pepper Spray Comparison

I have been a huge pepper spray nerd for a long time now, and as much as I enjoy the current ones I have found online, I felt like they had a lot of room for improvement in terms of demonstrating different spray patterns at distances.

I had hoped for doing this video with even more angles and better visibility of the spray itself as well as the impact on the targets, but this was my first ever attempt which I would say just turned out "Ok", so sadly not that much of an improvement over the others that are available, but whatever...

Fox Labs offers a 3 different solvents (solvent is the main volume of liquid inside the can, to which they add the hot active ingredient "OC").

They have their "Mean Green" spray which uses a water-based solvent and has a bright green dye added for attacker ID.

Next, they have their original formula solvent, which acts much like isopropyl alcohol and does a great job of getting into the eyes immediately for a very fast effect. This is the solvent I choose to carry myself.

Lastly, they still have a formula that they created in response to a governmental regulatory change on what chemicals they were allowed to use for their solvent under the Obama Administration. Trump reversed this, and Fox once again started producing the original formula. This new formula is 25% lighter than the original, and can be identified by the letters "DB" in the product number shown on the neck of the can. It isn't quite as effective as the original formula according to some users, hence why Fox returned to it when they could, and so did we.

Fox Labs offers 2 types of nozzles for these sprays; Cone and Stream.

-Stream: Offers a more directed and longer reaching pattern of small droplets with minimal vapor. Provides for minimal cross-contamination and is less effected by the wind. Only effects the eyes.

-Cone: Offers a much broader, dense pattern of vapor-like droplets that will hit the target directly as well as remaining in the air. This provides a strong effect in the eyes, and may also be inhaled for increased incapacitation. This allows it to be used as a fog barrier, and the wider pattern requires less precision.

Hope this video helps offer some mostly trivial knowledge, that perhaps may also come in handy for choosing your own pepper spray. :)

TLDR; the 2 oz, flip top, "One Point Four" formula with the Stream spray pattern is great stuff and is what we both carry daily. Check your state laws as some states restrict pepper spray.

Thanks for watching!

We are Cody and Katrina, AKA Second Nature. We have been traveling the US in our 32’ 2018 Desert Fox 27fs toy hauler trailer since October 2020. A lot has happened since we left, and we hope you will come along for the ride!

When we first started on our trip a lot of chaos happened and we weren’t able to edit, so we’ve been working through our backlog of footage for a while. We plan to be caught up and current in the next few months. In the meantime, have fun watching our memories.
