Giuseppe Verdi: "I Masnadieri".
Cello theme adapted and performed on the Oud and The Cumbus by Anello Capuano.
Concept and string arrangement by Hughes de Courson for the soundtrack of the film "Soliloquy" (2002) by Jacques Zanetti starring Diahnne Abbott and Drena De Niro (ex-wife and daughter of Robert de Niro).
As "Masnadieri" means "brigands" in Italian, the visual content of the video is an iconographic account of the hidden history that still shroud the Risorgimento (or the making of Italy as a nation in the second half of the 19th century, during Verdi lifetime) of the events that took place during and after the invasion of South Italy's Regno delle due Sicilie (backed and funded by foreign powers) first by Garibaldi and then by the Piedmontese northern army.
When the Southern populations resisted the seizure of their land and wealth, and the upheaval of their way of life by the invaders, they were declared brigands and exterminated, in the name of the newly reunited Italian Kingdom lead by Vittorio Emanuele II (who upgraded in the process from being just the King of Sardinia).
