SERMON NOTES

Building Us Back: A Love Story
Ruth & Hannah I Ruth & Samuel 1

I. Building Backgrounds
o When we look at these two stories we see that there is a lot revealed.
o These two stories introduce us two our two subjects. Both of them are married, both of them have husbands, and both of them do not have children yet
o Now I know what your saying I thought this is about Mother’s Day. It is but we have to set the scene first.

II. Overcoming Obstacles
 Ruth we see has to deal with the loss of her husband, brother-in-law, and Father-in-law. And then she is being advised to go home (by her mother-in-law
 Hannah we see is barren. She wants to beat her husband a child.
 This presents a problem that we see played out today. Many women want the opportunity to become mother. There is advice that is provided in the midst of these women’s stories that is truly great for today.
 Hannah definitely has it rough. It’s one thing to not be able to have children, it’s another to have someone taunt your situation negatively
 See even when you think God is not watching He is!!

III. Dedicated & Rewarded
 Ruth now makes a declaration that is so profound that it was one of the most quoted vow at weddings. 1:16-17
 We see that Hannah prays to the Lord and the Lord hears her cry! And that she is remembered.
 God may be placing someone in your path that may be in the midst of needing guidance. Or that might be dealing with a loss. Maybe you may be being called to be a mentor for someone. Regardless of what it may be. Hear these words from Paul to Timothy in 2:2!
