Land Clearing Mistakes To Avoid Plus Clear Cutting Myths

What's the difference between an overgrown woodland and a clear-cut mess? Clear-cutting the wrong way or wrong age forest is a waste of resources.

Forestry mulching is an alternative to clear-cutting woodland areas. Especially when the forest has young growth, is overgrown, or does not have mature trees.

Clear-cutting leaves your land exposed to erosion programs, destruction of young trees, and risk of brush fires. There are better things you can do with your land.

Twenty or more years is how long it takes a forest to recover from clear-cutting. This is okay if you work with a qualified forester to mature timber trees. Especially when replanting and addressing erosion issues.

Yet without proper management, the impacts of clear-cutting are costly. You will not get the most money from your land. A loss of habitat impacts hunting, camping, and recreation on your land.

Even replanting after clear-cutting ties up your land. You'll have hundreds of small trees rather than clear points of access. But this is only possible when land clearing handles stumps and brush waste.

Forestry mulching of underbrush opens up the forest to improve airflow and allow sunlight to enter. This can be done by patch, strip, or with reserves. You cut a pattern or leave behind trees that may have future value.

If you have land you want better access with some mature trees, you can use a combination of select cutting and forestry mulching. The select cut removes valuable trees, then the mulcher chips all tops and underbrush.
