Kata Bunkai: Pinan Three

Pinan Three contains some really nice movements that help to teach key principles of kata training. Anko itosu created the Pinan kata from other kata to simplify key movements. So there are numerous connections and similarities

The Five Ranges. Each range trumps the range before it. Under pressure against a non-compliant opponent, keep moving forward to the next range and provided your skills are balanced you will give yourself a much better chance of victory.

Kosaho. The early movements of the kata provide excellent instruction in how to use Kosaho under pressure. Uchi Uke Gedan Barai. The double block also acts as a simultaneous block and counter.

Is your application against a grab or a strike? All Bunkai starts with either one or the other, so need to adapt accordingly.
