I. The End is Near - 1 Peter 4:7
A. Jesus’ 2nd Advent is Imminent - Mark 13:28-33
1. Though we cannot know the exact day and hour, we can observe the signs of the 2nd Advent as the blossoming of the fig tree
a. We should know the Scriptures which describe the events preceding the 2nd Advent
b. We must, however, not assume we know with perfection the fulfillment of the prophecies
2. Peter was writing 1941 years ago, but he urged his readers to be always ready, so much the more should we
B. The practical application is to prayerfully watch for our Lord’s return - Mark 13:34-37
II. The Power of Prayer - 1 Peter 4:7-8
A. Sober minded means to be in one’s right mind - Mark 5:4, 5,15
1. Reality is what God says it is not man
a. When men try to define and determine reality, they wind up in some form of insanity
b. To be in your right mind requires that your mind be shaped by God’s Word
2. God’s Word gives us the mind of the Lord on all the important questions of life
B. To be in watchful prayer is to be always ready - Luke 12:35-40
1. Jesus upbraided the disciples - Matthew 26:41
2. Our prayer life is a measure of our watchfulness
C. Above all fervently love one another
1. Times of crisis may tempt us to turn inward, to become supremely self protective
2. Forgiveness will cover a multitude of sins - Proverbs 19:11 (The PeaceMaker’s Pledge)
