Hostage Situation at Apple Store in Amsterdam

A hostage situation at Amsterdam's Apple store has ended after a gunman held at least one person during a stand-off which lasted several hours.

Dutch police said several people had managed to leave the building during the hostage incident in Leidseplein, close to a busy shopping street.

The situation was declared over just before 10pm, with armed officers detaining the suspect on the street outside.

Amsterdam Police said: "We can confirm that the hostage taker is from the Apple Store.
