Johnson had 80 fights: 73 wins, won 5 Canadian titles, plus a CAN AM title in Miami 1987, along with a gold medal in World Jr championship in 1989-90, and represented Canada in 1992 Olympics winning his first fight, however, losing in the quarter finals. He turned pro in 1993 and began his career with a 3rd round KO win. He won the PABA championship from Oleg Maskaev (#2 spot in the world) and beat Larry Donald for the number #1 mandatory for the WBA world title and fought John Ruis for WBA world title (many felt he got robbed.), and ended with a record of 37-2-1-1nc, including 27 KOs.
