The 7 Types of LISTENERS
1. Pretender: this is the individual who although present physically is absent mentally and emotionally.
2. Interrupter: this is the individual that interrupts because they believe what they have to say is more important than what you were saying.
3. Selective: this is the individual who engages when the topic of discussion is of interest to them.
4. Attentive: this is the individual who pays attention to what’s being communicated so they can respond appropriately.
5. Active/Interactive: this is the individual who nods, maintains eye contact, and smiles well asking questions for clarity.
6. Sympathetic: this is the individual that says I’m sorry to hear that well not truly understanding how you really feel.
7. Empathetic: this is the individual who all though not knowing how you feel they demonstrate empathy by saying such things such as, “I’m so sorry, I can only imagine how you might be feeling.“
