This video is a walk through from the Plaza Independencia to the Escollera (jetty) Sarandi, in the Centro neighborhood. The incredible building in the plaza is the Palacio Salvo, erected in 1928, this building now houses apartments and offices. It's an amazing structure, and when you look at it you know that it contains many secrets and stories, and seems like it should be the setting of a classic movie or great piece of 20th century literature. The plaza also hosts the Mausoleum of Jose Artigas, the revolutionary leader of Uruguay. His remains are contained underground, under the giant bronze sculpture of him on his horse, and are guarded by traditional guards. Although today was a Saturday, the streets at the time of this walk through were quiet for three reasons. The first being that the weather was cloudy, the second being that it was siesta time, and the main reason being that the entire city was watching the Copa Libertadores final. I walked from the Plaza Independencia, along the Sarandi, then to the jetty.
