Following the powerful but short lived Qin Dynasty, the Han dynasty is often seen as a Golden Age, with significant scientific advancement and economic prosperity. This included pivotal events which would help establish the Silk road. But as with all things in history, old eras come to an end, and new ones rise. In the second century AD the dynasty faced a series of crises that threatened to end the empire. Control over the southern portion of the empire was decided in a legendary battle nearly forgotten here in the West: The Battle of Red Cliffs.
