César Prieto Baseball Highlights

César Prieto is a 22 year old second baseman for the Cienfuegos Elefantes and perhaps the most accomplished young hitter in recent Cuban competition.

The youngster was expected to be part of Cuba’s Olympic Qualifying squad but left the team and the country upon landing in Miami in late May. He will likely become one of the top prospects in the International signing market. International players under 25 years of age can negotiate with MLB teams for portions of their allotted pool money. Fellow Cuban Pedro Leon received the highest signing bonus in 2021, receiving $4 million from the Houston Astros. Prieto will likely sign in January of 2022.

The young sensation leaves after his 3rd and to date most successful Cuban National Series season. He led the circuit with a .403 batting average and established a new Cuban hitting streak record at 45 games.
