Mel Slater is a computer scientist known for his work in virtual reality, in particular in the field of embodiment and presence in VR. He invented the technique known as walking-in-place that allows people to ‘walk’ through a virtual environment that is much larger than the physical space in which the action is taking place. Mel is currently the Distinguished Investigator at the University of Barcelona and is Director of the Event Lab (Experimental Virtual Environments in Neuroscience and Technology) at the University of Barcelona.
