I’ve done a number of heron paintings in the past but wanted to try a close up scene. This heron caught my eye with his stately pose and elegant feathers. The photo that inspired this piece was actually all bright greens and yellows but I wanted something more calm and subdued for the background. It was a challenge getting the color palette right but overall I’m very pleased with the result.
