The time is drawing close for Jesus to complete what He has come to do.
So, He “set His face,” which is an idiom for He is determined to go to Jerusalem to do the will of His Father.
You need to understand that Jerusalem meant suffering, sacrifice, and death for Jesus…
The path to Jerusalem was the Calvary Road…and the final destination was the cross.
From this point forward…everything Jesus does will hasten His journey on the road to Calvary and the cross.
The prophet Zechariah predicted this day would happen some 500 years before Jesus stepped foot in Jerusalem.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)
Jesus knew He would soon fulfill this prophecy.
The twelve were ready to do whatever it took to make sure the Messiah was installed on the throne of David to rule over Jerusalem.
To them…the road to Jerusalem didn’t end at the cross…it ended when Jesus was crowned king over Israel.
