Sunday chores on the farm! Taking down big oak tree hazard the easy way, Bobcat e42 mini ex!

Aug 22, 2021 on our Southern Illinois farm. Join me for a farm vlog today as I tackle a chore that has been on my hit list for a long time now. This big red oak tree died about a year ago and is starting to drop dead branches down on my equipment since this is where I park some of my equipment for our farm. So instead of the 'traditional' way of taking down a tree like this, which would be cutting it down with a chainsaw, felling it in the direction that it is leaning (which would be right into our driveway and barn gravel pad), and then cutting it up into smaller pieces and hauling them off somewhere and then leaving tons of dead branch litter in the gravel area... I am going to try to do this the EASY way! When you have such a useful machine as my bobcat e42 R-2 series mini excavator, you might as well take advantage of it with projects like this to save you time, back labor, more risk, and energy to at least give it a try with the bobcat mini excavator to see how it will go. At first I tried to just push it over but that was not going to happen. Next, I tried to dig out some of the tree roots to push the stubborn oak tree over and that was not going to happen either. Lastly I grabbed my Stihl MS362 chain saw and cut a full notch in the rear of the tree in the direction I planned to guide it with the bobcat mini excavator and cut a 'half' notch in the front to discourage it from falling back at me, and towards the driveway and then used the sheer hydraulic power of the bobcat mini to push it in the opposite direction that it is leaning to save us a bunch of chainsaw and back labor.
