Simple breathing (Pranayama) exercise to release anxiety

In this session, we'll use a super-simple pranayama or breathing exercise to help release and let go of anxiety or panic. You can use this technique any time you feel anxious, panicky or fearful.

Deep belly breathing, or diaphragmatic breathing stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is part of the peripheral nervous system responsible for regulating heartbeat, blood flow, breathing, and digestion. Deep breathing helps you to lower the amount of cortisol in the body – the stress hormone that triggers the "fight-or-flight" response in mentally or physically terrifying situations. It's sometimes known as the "relaxation response".

No prior knowledge or experience of meditation is required, simply lie back, and follow along.
