Connecting with horses in a bad weather

These are two new horses that came for training. After about 6 days of solid ground work, they calmed down a lot and started connecting with me. Then opportunity presented itself in the form of bad weather. Rain and 30 mph wind in the night. the horses were in the coral and were cold and standing together with their head away from the wind. This is a good opportunity to see if they still connect with you in that situation and will take leadership from you. But if they panic I will abort the whole process so that no accident happen.
This has to be a very calm deliberate process without showing any stress from human side. This will show you if the horses trust you or not. If they connect, then it is very important not to cause any accident .
This is trust and bonding.
