Give this exercise a try, you actually don't need any workout equipment. Me holding the dumbbell is just an added workout bonus. This makes the workout harder with more resistance. You can hold anything for example a textbook or a small workout bag. I recommend first trying with no weight, doing more volume such as reps and sets. This will burn your obliques and you will feel the benefits of this exercise.
Remember consistency and giving your best goes a long way.
