The lesson on May 1, 2022 was part 4 of the “Running the Race” study. In today’s lesson, we look more in-depth at the Greek behind Hebrews 1:1-3 of Hebrews focusing on what more it teaches us about how Jesus Christ was the visible way of God communicating to us. Hebrews is clearly speaking to the Jews directly because Gentiles don’t have “fathers” or “prophets”. We learn in Ephesians and Colossians we learn that Gentiles don’t have this background. In verse one in the Greek, we notice all the “P’s” which makes it really distinctive with all the adverbs like “many Parts, many Ways, In time Past” God spake to the Fathers by the Prophets. Up until this time many of the Jews were not favorable to the Gospel because they believed in the Law. The writer of Hebrews said in many parts and in times past, God spoke to us by the prophets but in Hebrews 1:2 God spoke to them in Son. The superiority of Jesus Christ, being God manifest in the flesh. God the Father tabernacled with us in His Son. In Hebrews 1:3 we learn that Jesus was the brightness of His glory. Wayne shared that this is like the “Light” spectrum. The Father. Invisible. Likened to the infra red rays. The Son. God Manifest. Likened to the central rays of the spectrum, the only part of light by which we ‘see’. The Holy Spirit. Invisible. Likened to the ultra violet rays. We finished looking at the Shekinah Glory and The Son (John 1:14; Ex. 33:18-23 (Back parts); Ex. 33:11 (face to face); John 1:18 (no one has seen God); Num. 12:8 (apparently, similitude); Ezek. 1:26-28; Rev. 1:13-17). The scripture reading was from Exodus 33:18-23 KJV

“18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.”
