Slavery In The Bible? - This video addresses the issue of slavery in the Bible and demonstrates that the practice in the Bible is completely unlike the inhumane slavery practiced in the 16th to 19th century transatlantic slave trade of the Americas. Rather, slavery (an English word that didn't exist when the Bible was written) in the Bible was meant as a type of social welfare system to keep Israelite societies poor from dying of hunger or exposure by giving them work to earn a home and food for themselves. Also, the idea of cruelty and abuse invoked when the word slavery is mentioned is specifically condemned by God in the Bible.
