Looking at Central (surrounding the station) Shinjuku ward of Tokyo on the night of 22Mar16.

I started out in Kabukicho, located northeast of Shinjuku station. This district features countless restaurants, bars, nightclubs, pachinko parlors, love hotels and a wide variety of red light establishments. Here you find a density of vertical signage which is great to photograph.

The 5 or so walkways of Golden Gai area is located northeast of the station but southeast of central Kabukicho area. Golden Gai is a packed with over 200 small bars and eateries. Most places are very small, seating only a few customers, and typically cater to a few regular customers. A few of the bars openly welcome foreign guests with signs and menus set outside listing prices in English.

Next in the video is Omoide Yokocho (lit. memory lane), also known as Piss Alley'. It is a couple of walkways located directly north of the station. The old tiny restaurants have just one counter with some chairs, while others have a couple of tables.

Next, I visited the tall office area west of the station. Here, I ate a one of the lowest priced but still good tempura restaurants in Tokyo called Tempura Tendon Tenya. It's located one level down in an tall office building at 1 Chome-25-1 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tōkyō-to 160-0023. This is a chain restaurant with many location in Japan in franchised in other parts of the world.

Finally, I visited the free observation level on the 45th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office.
