Mental health is being aware of your overall mental state and well-being. When you regularly check in with yourself to assess your mood, energy levels, and thoughts, you’re able to detect any symptoms that might indicate a problem. Being mentally healthy means being able to seek professional treatment when necessary, and it also means living a life where you feel good about yourself and enjoy the company of others.
As with physical illness, it’s important to raise awareness about mental health so that people are better equipped to assess their own mental well-being and the mental well-being of their loved ones. If someone is suffering from depression or anxiety, for instance, they may not recognize this as a medical issue that requires treatment, instead choosing to believe there’s something wrong with them personally. This is where raising awareness can truly make a difference.
Mental health is a broad term that looks at our overall well-being. It includes our emotional, psychological, and social health. We know that exercising and eating right are important parts of physical health, but mental health is just as important to our well-being.
