Post-Resurrection Flesh
Jesus told Mary Magdalene to not hold onto him, because he had not yet ascended to Heaven. What could she have held onto, other than his body? How could Jesus break bread with his disciples after the resurrection, if he had no hands? If Jesus had just been a spirit, wouldn't the two disciples he joined on the road to Emmaus have noticed that his feet weren't touching the ground. How could Jesus have eaten with his disciples after the resurrection, had he no human digestive system? Finally, what wounds could Thomas have explored had Jesus only been spirit? Christianity is an incarnate religion! "Take my body," Jesus tells us. When we give ourselves to others, we are not just giving our prayers, thoughts, spirit, or souls. Rather, we give our hands to carry food to those who hunger, our feet to accompany those who have lost their way, our voice to those in need of an encouraging word, and our ears to those who cry out in pain.
