U.S. Coast Guard VBSS Demonstration 2016

September 30, 2022 - Coast Guardsmen assigned to the San Diego-based Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) 91109 fast roped from MH-60S Night Hawk helicopters from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 21 aboard the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Informal. U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter hosted the ASEAN Defense Informal on the island of Oahu, Sept. 29 - Oct. 1. As part of the strategic rebalance to the Indo-Asia-Pacific, the U.S. has increased engagement with regional institutions like ASEAN and is committed to working with its Southeast Asian partner nations to enhance humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities in the region.
